Ren Wu
Founder & CEO

Dr. Ren Wu is the Founder and CEO of NovuMind, where he is leading the effort to push the frontier of artificial intelligence and enable the Intelligent Internet of Things.

Previously, Dr. Wu was a Distinguished Scientist at Baidu. Before that, he served as Chief Software Architect of Heterogeneous System Architecture at AMD. Earlier, he was a Senior Scientist at HP Labs in USA and the Principal Researcher at HP Lab's CUDA Research Center. Dr. Wu is known as a pioneer in the use of GPUs to accelerate big data analytics and for his contributions to large-scale heterogeneous computer design. Dr. Wu is also known for his early work on artificial intelligence. His Xiangqi (Chinese chess) program was twice world champion and dominated the computer Xiangqi field for more than a decade. Dr. Wu received his PhD in Computer Science from Queen Mary University of London.

Outside of work, Dr. Wu is an avid photographer and loves the outdoors.

Chien-Ping Lu
Chief Technology Officer

Chien-Ping Lu has a unique background in both GPU and AI hardware as an executive and technical leader. He has successfully delivered new GPUs from early stage to working silicon. As VP Hardware Engineering at NovuMind from 2016 to 2017, he master-minded the NovuTensor architecture, resulting in the award of 4 patents. He returned to NovuMind as Chief Technology Officer in 2019 to bring NovuTensor to the next level. Chien-Ping leads all of our R&D.

Chien-Ping received his PhD in Computer Science from Yale University and prior to that studied Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University. He lives in the SF Bay Area and outside of work he enjoys time with his family and tennis.

Pete Bonee
Vice President Operations

Pete's career has included engineering roles, startup company leadership roles, and venture investing. He comes to us from Innosight Ventures, where he led early-stage venture investments in Singapore. Prior to that he was CEO of Sylantro Systems, a VoIP software company. Pete received his BSEE degree from MIT and his MSEE from Stanford University, and he attended the AEA Executive Institute at Stanford GSB.

Pete is based in our Santa Clara headquarters and is responsible for Novumind's business operations.

On the weekends you can often find Pete mountain biking in the hills around the SF Bay Area.

Bin Zhou
Vice President, Head of China Operation

Bin is an AI and Heterogeneous Computing Expert. He previously worked at NVIDIA. He was named as an NVIDIA CUDA Fellow in 2013, and is the only CUDA Fellow in China. He is also an Adjunct Research Professor in School of Information Science and Technology at University of Science and Technology of China (USTC).  He holds BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Information and Communication Engineering from the Tsinghua University and MSc in Computer Engineering from George Mason University.

Bin leads our operations in China. He is based at our office in Beijing.

John Wei
Vice President, Design Technologies

John has over 25 years of scientific, design, and management experience in the semiconductor industry. He came to us from Alchip, where he was Chief Scientist, after holding prior senior positions at Celestial Semiconductor, Tensilica, Marvell Semiconductor, and PMC-Sierra.

John graduated with BSEE/BSMSE degrees from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, MSMSE from Stanford University, PhD in EE from Dartmouth, and did post-doctoral work at MIT. He holds 4 US patents in IC design and has published numerous IEEE refereed papers.

John loves golf. We sometimes see him outside the office practicing his swing in the California sunshine.

John Xie
Vice President Sales

John came to us from NVIDIA, where he was a Senior Marketing Director. John's expertise includes AI, high performance computing and visual computing technologies. His previous experience includes sales and marketing roles at SGI and Hewlett Packard.

John is in charge of our sales operations and he is based in our Beijing office. 

When not working, John enjoys different sports including badminton.
